This is a guided meditation about blowing dandelions by Fletcher Lee Johnson.
Before getting started, let’s get ready for bed and thinking about dandelions by doing a few yoga poses. These poses will get us ready for finding dandelion flowers because that is what butterflies and bees do, they are good flower finders.
Take a deep breath in between each pose.
- Butterfly pose
- Bee pose
- Flower pose
Do you know what a dandelion looks like? Dandelions start out as yellow flowers. You’ve probably seen them in your backyard and everywhere in the grass. You’ll see bees and butterflies on them. Bees take the pollen out of the flower and put it in their honey hive to rest a little bit to turn into honey. Do you like honey?
Dandelions are cool because they will close back up and then they bloom white. They are different because you can blow their petals off and make a wish but you can’t tell anybody because it will never come to you if you do. Take a deep breath and think about what you want to wish for.
Are you ready?
Pick one off the ground, take a big breath, and blow. Whoosh! Did the wind catch it? That happens sometimes. The little petals look like stars that have fur on them as they blow in the wind doing swoopty loops and zig zags. If you look close, you will see that they are little helicopter seeds. Run after them and try to catch one!
There are lots of white dandelions around and you keep finding them and blowing them to make more wishes and having fun because that is the important part.
Fletcher wrote this dandelion guided meditation while hiking in the cliffs on middle Tennessee. There were dandelions, both yellow and white, lining the hiking path. Fletcher had a blast blowing as many as he could while enjoying his hike on a warm spring day.
