Fletcher was inspired to write this “Heart Care” meditation after having the amazing opportunity to visit Dr. Shane Darrah MD, FACC, FSCAI and his staff of Southeastern Cardiology in Columbus, GA. He named this one, “Heart Care” because that is what heart doctors do, they care for people’s hearts.
Lie down, close your eyes, breathe, Can you feel that?
It is your big, beautiful heart.
You can feel your heartbeat by putting your hand on your chest and feeling the beat. It is snapping together. It is like two hands clapping together playing patty cake.
When you are excited or laughing, your heart beats faster. But when you are sleeping, your heart slows down. It gets quieter so it doesn’t wake you up.
If you were going to play an instrument to sound like your heart, what would it be? I’d play the drums.
Boom, boom, boom.
Count the chambers with me slowly.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Now, count the valves with me slowly.
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
The aortic valve is opening and closing. If you watch the work your heart does, it can create colors, blue and red. It is how the heart sends air all through your body, even through your neck. It never stops. It gets everything you need to your fingers and toes.
Hearts are like magnets, when we hug, your heart connects to my heart. When we are sad, our hearts can break. Find someone to hug because it will act like a magnet and it will put our hearts back together.
Hearts are sweet. They are what love is with hugs and kisses.
Goodnight.
This is a guided meditation written by five-year-old, Fletcher Lee Johnson.
